
The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved the allocation of US$19.49 million to the budget of the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) to advance the construction of the dome surrounding the passenger terminal at Pacific International Airport, a strategic project underway in the department of La Unión.
The measure was supported with 58 votes as part of the efforts to boost economic growth, strengthen air connectivity, and enhance development in the eastern region of the country.
Funding details
The approved funds total US$19,499,961 and come from external financing. Of this total, US$17,188,106 corresponds to a loan granted by the Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO), while US$2,311,855 comes from remaining securitization funds.
A key structure for the terminal

The investment will be used for the supply and installation of the dome, considered a central element of the airport’s design. This structure will be approximately 21 meters tall and will cover an area of 4,550 square meters.
It will also incorporate natural lighting through glazed surfaces, contributing to energy efficiency and improving the user experience within the terminal.
Airport project progress
The Pacific International Airport also includes the construction of the runway, taxiways, auxiliary buildings, and the necessary equipment for its operation.

These works aim to guarantee suitable conditions for the operation of domestic and international flights, expanding the country’s airport capacity.
Economic and regional impact
This project is expected to boost the economy in the eastern region, facilitate tourist access, and strengthen the connection between salvadorans abroad and their hometowns.
Furthermore, the project will help consolidate El Salvador as a key air connectivity hub in the region.
