The Legislative Assembly approved, with 59 votes, a tax exemption for the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café (ISC) for operations related to the organization and execution of the “Taza de Excelencia El Salvador 2026”, competition, an initiative aimed at strengthening the international promotion of salvadoran coffee and generating new commercial opportunities for domestic producers.
With the approval of the decree, the ISC will be exempt from paying taxes, except for the Value-Added Tax (VAT), on all activities related to the event’s organization.
The exemption includes the contracting of services, payment of fees, commissions, and other transactions carried out with domestic and foreign entities participating in the organization of the competition.
According to statements made during the legislative process, the measure seeks to facilitate the holding of “Taza de Excelencia El Salvador 2026”, considered one of the most important events for the promotion of specialty and high-quality coffees in international markets.

Authorities noted that the competition will help strengthen the positioning of the “Café de El Salvador” brand in specialty markets, boosting recognition of salvadoran coffee and opening marketing opportunities for domestic producers.
During the review of the proposal by the Finance Committee, representatives from the Ministry of Finance explained that the event will help revitalize the coffee economy and increase the added value of coffee produced in the country.
They also indicated that this initiative aims to improve marketing conditions for the sector and increase the international visibility of salvadoran coffees.

The competition will be organized in partnership with the la Fundación Alianza para la Excelencia del Café Inc. (ACE), of the United States and the Fundación Organización Taza de Excelencia, organizations recognized for promoting specialty coffees in various international markets.
Authorities also emphasized that this measure is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the salvadoran coffee sector through value-added programs, international promotion, and initiatives focused on improving the climate resilience of coffee forests.
With this approval, the government and the Legislative Assembly seek to support the coffee sector and create greater economic opportunities for domestic producers through specialized international events.
