Technical training is just the starting point. Today, El Salvador’s newest women electricians are demonstrating that their knowledge can also transform communities, improve safety conditions in shared spaces, and contribute to the country’s economic and social development.

With this vision, AES El Salvador and the el Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo de la Mujer (ISDEMU) celebrate the graduation of the eleventh class of the Programa Mujeres Electricistas, an initiative that has evolved to respond to a new reality: women are now active participants in the electrical sector, contributing their skills and driving solutions that generate benefits beyond the professional sphere.

As part of their training, the participants of the 2026 class developed professional practice projects in different parts of the country, applying their knowledge to real-world scenarios and putting their skills to work for the needs of the communities.

Projects that generate a positive impact
In Santa Ana, the participants worked alongside Aldeas Infantiles SOS El Salvador to improve spaces dedicated to early childhood care, including the dining room, kitchen, and administrative offices. These improvements enhanced the conditions of the spaces used daily by the institution.

In the eastern part of the country, the future technicians inspected electrical circuits and lighting systems at the Centro Educativo La Carmenzalocated in the Hato Nuevo canton of San Miguel. This work allowed them to verify the safety and functionality of the facilities, a fundamental aspect for fostering suitable learning environments.

Similarly, in communities and productive spaces in San Martín and Colón, the participants supported initiatives of women entrepreneurs who needed to improve the electrical installations in their businesses. The work included installing new circuits, replacing conductors, installing conduits, and performing the necessary technical verifications to ensure safer and more functional systems.

Collectively, these projects directly benefited more than 800 people, reflecting how technical training can translate into tangible improvements for daily life, education, and productive activities.

From technical training to leadership and social transformation
Each intervention represented much more than practical exercise. For the participants, it meant an opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world conditions, strengthen their professional confidence, and demonstrate their capabilities in the electrical sector.

This experience also reflects the evolution of the program’s purpose. After more than a decade of opening opportunities for women’s participation in this industry, the challenge is no longer limited to training and certifying electrical technicians. It also involves empowering them to actively contribute to the transformation of their communities, the development of their regions, and the economic and social growth of El Salvador.

Since its inception, the Programa Mujeres Electricistas has trained 1,172 women, and with the support of the Dirección General de Energía Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) this year’s cohort has certified 112 new electrical technicians, bringing the total to 1,118 accredited women. This consolidates a trajectory that demonstrates the growing participation of women in a sector that is strategic for the country’s development.

The 2026 cohort represents a new chapter for this initiative, in which training is connected with experience, job opportunities, and a commitment to the needs of the population.

Through this partnership, AES El Salvador and ISDEMU continue to promote opportunities for more women to develop their technical and professional skills, while contributing to building safer communities, strengthening productive initiatives, and expanding development possibilities for future generations.

Because a woman electrician doesn’t just install connections: she connects knowledge with opportunities, drives solutions, and contributes to building a future in which energy development also translates into social well-being for El Salvador.

The Programa Mujeres Electricistas, promoted by AES El Salvador and the el Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo de la Mujer (ISDEMU) with the recent support of the Dirección General de Energía Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) promotes the training and certification of women in the electrical field, opening opportunities for their participation in the sector and strengthening their capacity to apply their knowledge in professional and community settings.
