The Legislative Assembly approved, with 57 votes, to amend the 2024 Budget Law, in the part that corresponds to the Government and Territorial Development branch, in order to incorporate US$18 million to this institution.
These funds come from a loan made with the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) for US$68 million, which were approved by the Legislative Assembly on march 19 of this year.
The purpose of this is that the Governor’s Office can use this money to start with the execution of three investment projects within the framework of the “Program for the Strengthening of Public Spaces for the Sustainability of Security and Recovery of the Social Fabric in El Salvador”.
According to what was stated in the plenary, there are three plans to be developed with these funds and they will be distributed as follows:
Social integration and local development program, through the promotion of arts and cultural activities in the historic center of San Salvador. This will require the investment of US$13.56 million for the purchase of land on the block of the former Libertad movie theater. It will be invested in the reconstruction of a four-story building for film projection and the construction of another two-story building for film training in El Salvador. In addition, the building will be designed, reconstructed and equipped to house the film exhibition hall, which will have projection spaces and multipurpose rooms, among other improvements.
A second plan is the program to improve infrastructure, equipment and digital innovation in priority tourist destinations nationwide, for which US$2.84 million will be required to light the road from Surf City to El Zonte beach, in La Libertad; to pave the access to the parking lot at El Tunco and the construction of a wooden platform on the same beach.
Finally, the institutional strengthening program will be executed in the amount of US$1.60 million. These programs will help increase tourism activity in the country, considering that approximately 5.9 million domestic and foreign tourists visit the historic center each year, which will help develop the economy.
