The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved with 57 votes the extension of the benefit that allows the registration of Sociedades por Acciones Simplificadas (SAS) without paying fees at the Commercial Registry of the Centro Nacional de Registros (CNR). This measure, in force since february 2024, was about to expire, but the deputies decided to extend it in order to continue promoting the economy and facilitate the formalization of businesses.
In addition, it was ratified that SAS will not pay the company, local, branch or agency registration fee for the first time, according to Legislative Decree 905 of december 2023. This business model allows a single person to create and manage a business in an agile manner, with capital divided into shares, reducing costs and bureaucratic procedures.
One of the main benefits of the SAS is access to bank financing, which facilitates business growth. It also allows the salvadoran diaspora to establish companies with the assurance that their personal assets will not be affected, since liability is limited to the reported capital.
According to the CNR, as of december 2024, 2,000 new SAS had been registered, of which 70% were created with an initial capital of only one dollar. Parliamentarian Sandra Interiano emphasized that this model encourages entrepreneurship and digitalization in the creation of companies.
El Salvador is the first country in Central America to adopt this scheme, which has been successful in countries such as Chile, Colombia and Mexico. The extension of the benefit seeks to continue strengthening the national economy and provide more opportunities for salvadoran entrepreneurs.
