Between april 12 and 14, El Salvador received more than 46,000 international visitors, representing a 4% increase over the same period in 2024. This record number confirms the positive impact of the strategies implemented by the Ministerio de Turismo (MITUR) and the Instituto Salvadoreño de Turismo (ISTU) to attract tourists, with a focus on safety and family experiences.

The majority of international visitors came from Guatemala (41%), the United States (26%), and Honduras (21%). This influx has boosted the local economy and generated opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses in key tourist areas.

One of the main factors behind this increase is the significant improvement in security. ISTU President Eny Aguiñada explained that this transformation has made it possible to extend the hours of operation in some parks during Holy Week. “In the Puerta del Diablo, the hours are until midnight, as well as the Parque Balboa ”, said the official.

In addition, the Buses Alegres program has facilitated domestic tourism, ensuring safe and accessible transportation to destinations such as Suchitoto, Apulo, Cerro Verde, Barra de Santiago, and the Parque Arqueológico San Andrés . Routes can be easily booked at 7517-9169, which has expanded the scope of recreational activities for all ages.

For better planning, the Government has made available the quechivoaqui.sv platform, which centralizes the country’s cultural and tourist agenda, strengthening the connection between visitors and salvadoran destinations. With these actions, MITUR reaffirms its commitment to promote sustainable tourism development in El Salvador, promoting a diverse, safe, and quality offer for all citizens and foreign visitors.
