With 12 days to go before the closing of the re-registration process for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in the United States, immigration advisors warn Salvadorans under this program that they must complete the process before march 18, 2025. Failure to do so could generate problems with their immigration status and expose them to the loss of this protection.

They have also pointed out that, even if a person does not have the money to pay for the work permit, he or she should submit the Form I-821 application, since there is no processing fee. Filing this application is key because it allows beneficiaries to maintain TPS protection even if they have not yet applied for a work permit.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security estimates that about 34,000 salvadorans are enrolled in TPS. Those who complete the re-registration process by the established deadline will be assured of this protection until september 9, 2026.

For those who cannot apply in time or do not qualify for TPS, immigration experts recommend seeking legal advice to explore other options to maintain regular immigration status in the United States. Lack of guidance could expose them to risks of deportation or loss of immigration opportunities.

The specialists’ call is clear: Salvadorans with TPS must act before March 18 to avoid complications. Ignoring this process could have serious consequences on their stay in the U.S. and on their job and family stability.
