Security continues to be the most positive aspect that the population highlights about El Salvador, according to the results of the most recent survey by the Instituto Universitario de Opinión Pública (Iudop) of the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (UCA), corresponding to the seventh year of the current administration. The study reveals that 77.4% of Salvadorans consider security to be the best thing currently happening in the country, solidifying it as the main factor in citizens’ assessments.
This positive perception is also reflected in other indicators related to this issue. 3.7% of respondents cited the reduction of violence and the incarceration of gang members as one of the main positive aspects, while 2.2% highlighted peace, tranquility, and freedom of movement as positive changes the country is experiencing.
When asked specifically about the government’s main achievements, security once again ranked first. Forty-seven percent of the population identifies this issue as the current administration’s greatest achievement, followed by the fight against gangs, mentioned by 17.3% of those interviewed. Citizens also recognize progress in education, with 4.6% highlighting school renovations and improvements in educational infrastructure, while 3.7% emphasized the distribution of school supply kits.

These results are also reflected in the evaluation of public institutions. The Ministry of Justice and Public Security received the highest rating with a score of 8.60, followed by the Ministry of Education, which reached 8.16. Other highly rated entities include the Ministry of National Defense, with 7.98, and the Ministry of Tourism, with 7.96, reflecting a favorable perception of the work done in these areas.
In the overall evaluation, the government obtained an average rating of 7.92, remaining virtually unchanged from the previous year. President Nayib Bukele received a score of 8.24, higher than the overall rating for the government. Furthermore, 87.8% of the population rated his performance as “very good” or “good,” while 60.7% believe the government has listened to citizens’ largely demands or somewhat, according to the UCA survey results.

Another key finding of the study is public support for the state of emergency. The survey indicates that 68.9% of respondents believe this measure should continue, while 28.6% think other strategies are needed to combat crime.
Although the study also reflects concerns related to the economy, the cost of living, and employment, the results show that security remains the most positive aspect the population identifies in the country. Furthermore, the high ratings given to institutions linked to security and education, along with the approval ratings received by the president and the government, reflect a favorable perception in these areas during the seventh year of the administration.
