El Salvador concluded the first International Congress on Religious Tourism, “Tierra de Fe Viva”El Salvador 2026”, a three-day event that brought together specialists and international representatives to share experiences on the development of this tourism segment.
The event, held at the Biblioteca Nacional de El Salvador included conferences and discussions on the management of religious heritage, the restoration of historical sites, and the economic opportunities generated by cultural tourism.
One of the speakers was Fabián Rojas, the mayor of Zipaquirá, Colombia, who presented the experience of the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, an attraction that received nearly 700,000 visitors in 2025 and has become a benchmark for religious tourism.
Rojas emphasized the importance of investing in the revitalization of historical centers to attract visitors and noted that the transformation of San Salvador served as a reference for the processes developed in his municipality.
Adriana Larín, director of the Autoridad del Centro Histórico, emphasized that the restoration of public spaces creates new opportunities for tourism and strengthens community development.
The congress helped position El Salvador as a host for international events and promote religious tourism as an activity with economic, cultural, and social potential for the country.
