Driven by Belgium’s importance as the primary destination for salvadoran coffee in the European Union, El Salvador is participating in World of Coffee Brussels 2026, Europe’s leading coffee trade show, to strengthen national exports and open up new trade opportunities.
According to data from the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR), coffee exports to Belgium reached US$20.2 million between January and September 2025, cementing that country’s position as the largest European buyer of salvadoran coffee. Furthermore, Belgium’s role as a logistics hub for coffee distribution across the continent makes this market a strategic location for expanding the presence of the national product.

El Salvador’s participation in the fair is supported by the European Union and organized by the International Trade Centre (ITC) through the Ilamatepec Project, in coordination with the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café (ISC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Economy.
During the event, producers and industry representatives held meetings with international buyers, roasters, distributors, and investors to promote the quality, sustainability, and added value of salvadoran coffee, as well as to foster new export opportunities.

Officials emphasized that participating in World of Coffee Brussels 2026 is part of a strategy to diversify markets, increase exports, and strengthen the competitiveness of the coffee sector by capitalizing on the growing European demand for specialty coffees.

Through this participation, El Salvador seeks to consolidate its presence in one of its main export markets and generate greater economic opportunities for producers, thereby strengthening the coffee value chain and boosting export sales.
