El Salvador International Airport served more than 5.2 million travelers in 2025, a figure that reflects the growth in tourism, business travel, and the country’s air connectivity. In response to this growing demand, authorities recently inaugurated the new Arrivals Terminal, a project that represented an investment of US$50 million and generated more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs during its construction.
The new infrastructure, financed with CEPA’s own funds, covers 24,000 square meters and will streamline passenger entry, improve service, and strengthen the operational capacity of the country’s main airport.
The growth in passenger traffic has also been accompanied by greater international connectivity. During the current administration, six new airlines and eight new routes were added, expanding El Salvador’s connections to 30 cities in 12 countries, thereby strengthening the airport’s position as a strategic hub for tourism, trade, and investment.
Among the main improvements are the expansion of immigration checkpoints to 73 stations—34 of which are in the new terminal—and the increase in the baggage area’s capacity, which went from four to twelve conveyor belts, allowing for the processing of up to 16,500 bags per hour, compared to the previous 6,000.
With these investments, the airport continues to prepare to accommodate sustained passenger growth and strengthen El Salvador’s air connectivity.
