The governments of El Salvador and Bolivia took a significant step forward in civil aviation by formalizing a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening air connectivity and improving transportation services between the two countries.
This agreement lays the groundwork for a future agreement that will expand air routes, facilitate passenger mobility, and optimize the transport of goods. The initiative seeks to modernize and revitalize the aeronautical sector, creating more favorable conditions for trade and tourism.
The agreement was signed by the Autoridad de Aviación Civil de El Salvador, Homero Morales, and the director general of Aeronáutica Civil de Bolivia, José Fanola, in a virtual ceremony attended by Ambassador Ana Rivas.
From a technical standpoint, the memorandum outlines cooperation between the two aeronautical authorities to develop a regulatory framework that facilitates flight operations, improves air safety, and promotes international standards in provision. This includes the possibility of establishing new flight frequencies, strengthening regional connectivity, and facilitating agreements between airlines.
The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, emphasized that this agreement transcends the technical sphere, representing an opportunity to bring both nations closer together through greater integration in air transport.
It was also highlighted that strengthening civil aviation directly contributes to the development of strategic sectors such as foreign trade and tourism by reducing travel times and improving logistical efficiency. Air connectivity is positioned as a key element for boosting the competitiveness of countries in the region.
The agreement also recognizes the progress made in El Salvador’s aeronautical system, which has consolidated itself as a strategic connection point in Central America. This opens the possibility for the country to function as a logistics hub, facilitating the transit of passengers and cargo to other destinations.
Based on this memorandum, both nations will begin working together to structure a broader agreement that will establish air routes and strengthen civil aviation services. The goal is to move toward a more efficient, safe, and connected transportation system that benefits both users and productive sectors.
