The vice minister Ad-Honorem of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Óscar Domínguez, denied rumors of a supposed shortage of white corn in the country, assuring that there is enough product to guarantee supply throughout the year.
Domínguez explained that the reports of “shortages” do not correspond to reality. He pointed out that the planting carried out since last year and the staggered harvest have allowed for a constant flow of corn to the market. “Some stakeholders seem to forget what we have planted and lose sight of what we are currently harvesting”, he said.

To ensure that the population has access to corn at fair prices, four sales points have been set up where a quintal is offered at US$22, in addition to the option of buying it by the pound:
San Salvador: Gerardo Barrios Street
San Salvador: 29 de Agosto Street
Sonsonate: Megaplaza
San Miguel: Basic grains market
The deputy minister emphasized that distributors will be under constant surveillance to prevent hoarding or price gouging, including inspections of warehouses where the product might be stored illegally.

“Supply is guaranteed, and anyone who attempts to manipulate the market or harm the population will face the full force of the law”, Domínguez said, reiterating that rumors of shortages are unfounded.
With these actions, authorities seek to reassure the public and protect access to a basic food item, preventing price gouging from affecting consumers.
