The tourism sector in El Salvador registered 92% economic growth between 2019 and 2025, as highlighted by the Minister of Economy of El Salvador, María Luisa Hayem, during a business meeting organized by the Cámara Salvadoreña de Turismo (Casatur). The official stated that this progress reflects the dynamism the sector has achieved in recent years, driven primarily by the recovery of security and improvements in the business climate.
The statements were made during the Breakfast Brief held by Casatur, an event that brought together business leaders from various economic sectors with the goal of strengthening tourism development and continuing to position the country as an attractive international destination.
According to Hayem, tourism has become one of the most dynamic areas of the Salvadoran economy, generating new opportunities for investment and business growth. The minister noted that in 2025, more than 8,300 new companies were established in the country, and a significant portion of these belong to the tourism sector.

The official explained that tourism growth has been accompanied by a more favorable investment environment, driven by strategies implemented during President Nayib Bukele’s administration.
She also highlighted that El Salvador closed last year with 4.1 million international visitors, a figure that represents a 4% increase compared to 2014. According to authorities, this performance reflects the growing interest of foreign tourists in visiting the country.
The director of the Corporación Salvadoreña de Turismo (Corsatur), Alejandra Durán, said that since 2019 the country has focused on strategic investments in public and tourism infrastructure to strengthen the sector’s development in different regions of the country.

Durán indicated that one of the main challenges is maintaining the sector’s preparedness to handle the increasing number of international visitors, ensuring a better experience and strengthening the quality of El Salvador’s tourism product.
Meanwhile, the president of Casatur, Carlos Umaña, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private sector and the government to achieve the results currently seen in the country’s tourism industry.
The meeting also served to reinforce the vision of continuing to promote investment, strengthen the tourism offerings, and consolidate El Salvador as one of the fastest-growing destinations in the region.
