Labor Minister Rolando Castro announced that El Salvador will soon add a new European country to its Labor Migration Program, an initiative that has allowed thousands of salvadorans to legally, safely, and securely access temporary jobs abroad with labor guarantees.
The minister stated that this new destination will open opportunities for hundreds of salvadoran workers, who will be able to apply for positions with competitive salaries and benefits, thus expanding their employment options outside the country.
The announcement was made during an official visit to Geneva, which, according to Castro, yielded positive results for El Salvador. Although he did not reveal the name of the country joining the program, he assured that more details about this new labor partnership would be provided in the coming days.
During his remarks, the minister explained that the government’s strategy seeks to diversify the destinations available to salvadoran workers, paying particular attention to Europe as a region with the potential to generate new employment opportunities.

Castro pointed out that one of the main objectives of the Labor Migration Program is to help reduce irregular migration by offering safe alternatives so that salvadorans can access job opportunities abroad without exposing themselves to the risks of traveling illegally.
“Today, you don’t have to risk your life crossing the Rio Grande; today, our workers will cross an ocean legally, safely, and with dignity”, the official said, referring to the importance of creating orderly migration routes.
He also emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Nayib Bukele’s vision of building a country with greater opportunities for its people by creating mechanisms that allow access to formal employment in international markets.

The minister explained that opening new job destinations is the result of a process that requires years of work, technical analysis, and negotiations with authorities in other countries. He detailed that specialized teams from the Ministry of Labor constantly study international labor markets to identify sectors with a demand for salvadoran workers.
Once opportunities are identified, authorities establish contacts with governments and labor ministries in other countries to develop agreements that allow for the legal hiring of salvadoran workers. Subsequently, technical teams monitor each stage until a new country is added to the program.
With this upcoming announcement, the Labor Migration Program continues to expand its international reach and strengthen options for more salvadorans to access formal employment abroad under regulated conditions and with protection of their labor rights.
