The Embassy of El Salvador to the Kingdom of Norway participated for the third consecutive year in the Norwegian Coffee Roasting Championship, known as NM i Kaffebrenning, solidifying the presence of salvadoran coffee within one of the most renowned and specialized spaces in the Norwegian coffee ecosystem.
According to information shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, during the competition, Salvadoran coffee was selected as the official single-origin bean of the event, allowing professional roasters and specialists to directly evaluate the characteristics and quality of the salvadoran product.
The event was recently held at the Rebel Coffee Works facilities and brought together six finalists in the single-origin and blend categories, where Salvadoran coffee played a leading role in the competition.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that this participation is part of the efforts driven by the Trade Diplomacy strategy aimed at strengthening the international positioning of national products in high-value markets.

Norway is considered one of the most important markets for specialty coffee due to its high consumption and the technical expertise of its buyers and roasters. According to official data, the European country ranks fifth in Europe in coffee consumption.
The Salvadoran ambassador to Norway, Claudia Beltrán, emphasized that El Salvador’s consecutive participation in this competition strengthens the country’s image as a producer of high-quality coffee and a trusted name within the specialty sector.
“El Salvador’s participation in NM i Kaffebrenning 2026 reaffirms the strategic value of this event for promoting salvadoran specialty coffee in the Norwegian market”, the diplomat stated.
She also noted that Norwegian roasters and specialists highlighted the sensory attributes of Salvadoran coffee, such as its fruity profile, notes of red berries, juiciness, sweetness, chocolate, and vinous character.

The coffee used in the competition was provided by Finca Santa Rita, specifically the Pacas variety, one of the traditional and renowned varieties of Salvadoran coffee.
The ambassador also expressed her gratitude for the collaborative work done with Norsk Kaffe Informasjon (Norwegian Coffee Information Office) and the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café to make the participation of salvadoran coffee in the championship possible.
During the competition, the six finalists developed roasting profiles using exclusively salvadoran coffee, allowing judges and experts to analyze the complexity, versatility, and characteristics of the national bean.

The Specialty Coffee Association Norway also publicly recognized the Embassy of El Salvador for its work in positioning salvadoran coffee within the Norwegian market and the specialty coffee sector.
The winner of the 2026 national championship was Trude Skjold Løken, who worked on the roasting profile using salvadoran coffee from Finca Santa Rita. Second place went to Ayae Maki Fredheim, and third place to José Corado.
With this new international participation, and as highlighted by the Salvadoran Ministry of Foreign Affairs, El Salvador continues to strengthen the promotion of its specialty coffee in strategic markets and consolidate its recognition within the international coffee industry.
