Salvadoran coffee achieved new international recognition by winning first place in the unwashed process category at the K-Coffee Awards Winners Tasting Event, held in Incheon, South Korea. The event brought together producers, specialists, roasters, tasters, and importers from the coffee industry.
The event was organized by the Coffee Critics Association (CCA) and took place at Crocat House, a cultural space located on the waterfront in Jemulpo-gu, in the port city of Incheon. This recognition marks the first time El Salvador has achieved the top position in this category at the competition.
The salvadoran ambassador to Korea, Federico Guerrero, emphasized that this achievement reflects the quality of Salvadoran coffee and its ability to compete in specialized international markets that value factors such as origin, traceability, production processes, and the sensory characteristics of the bean.
Guerrero noted that coffee remains one of the country’s priority export products and that Korea represents a strategic market for strengthening its presence in Asia. He also emphasized the importance of directly connecting salvadoran coffee with consumers, roasters, and industry professionals to showcase the work of producers and the diversity of the country’s coffee-growing regions.
The recognition received in Incheon positions salvadoran coffee as a product of distinct origin, highlighting the attributes of the country’s volcanic soils and the techniques used by producers to develop high-quality profiles.
The event also served as a platform for cultural and commercial exchange under the “Port to Port” concept, promoted by Crocat House, which seeks to connect port cities and communities through coffee, uniting the stories and traditions of producing countries with new consumers.
The Embassy of El Salvador reported that it will continue promoting activities such as tastings, samplings, and meetings with coffee industry stakeholders in Korea, with the goal of transforming this type of recognition into new business opportunities for the salvadoran coffee sector.
The event was attended by local authorities from Incheon, representatives from the coffee industry, and members of the Coffee Critics Association, who emphasized the importance of fostering connections between international producers and specialized consumers.
