The Finance and Special Budget Committee issued a favorable opinion to exempt the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café (ISC) from paying taxes on operations related to the organization and execution of the “Taza de Excelencia El Salvador 2026”competition.
The initiative seeks to facilitate the event by exempting all types of taxes (except the Value Added Tax (VAT)) on income and expenses related to the competition.
According to the proposal, the exemption would apply to payments for services, commissions, and fees contracted with both national and foreign entities participating in the competition.

The “Taza de Excelencia El Salvador 2026” competition is part of the strategy promoted by the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café (ISC) to promote salvadoran coffee in international markets and strengthen the positioning of the “Coffee of El Salvador” brand.
During the analysis of the initiative, the deputies met with the head of the Legal Division of the Ministry of Finance, Gerardo Ramos, who explained that these types of activities contribute to boosting the coffee sector’s economy and expanding commercial opportunities for national producers.
According to the official, the event will be held in conjunction with the Fundación Alianza para la Excelencia del Café Inc. (ACE) and Fundación Organización Taza de Excelencia, organizations specializing in the promotion of high-quality coffees in international markets.

Ramos also noted that the Government, through the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café is promoting projects aimed at increasing the added value of coffee and programs focused on strengthening the climate resilience of coffee-growing forests.
These actions seek to improve support conditions for producers, strengthen salvadoran coffee farming, and contribute to the economic development of families linked to the sector.
The decree also establishes that the tax exemption will not limit the tax administration’s powers of oversight and control over operations related to the event.
