Tourism continues to solidify its position as a key driver of the salvadoran economy. Between january and august 2026, the country accumulated US$2.88 billion in foreign exchange earnings generated by international visitors, representing a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to data shared by the Presidential Press Office.
The increase in foreign exchange earnings reflects higher tourist spending on services such as lodging, food, transportation, entertainment, and recreational activities. These resources have a direct impact on the economy, benefiting businesses of all sizes and contributing to job creation in tourism-related sectors.
This positive performance in foreign exchange earnings has been accompanied by an increase in international visitor arrivals. According to the report, between january and august 2026, El Salvador received 3,241,583 international visitors, a 22% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

The data shows that more and more people are choosing the country as a vacation destination, for recreational activities, or to explore its natural and cultural attractions. Among the main factors driving this trend are the beaches, landscapes, tourist sites, and cultural offerings available throughout the country.
In august 2026 alone, El Salvador registered the arrival of 357,325 international visitors, reflecting a 5.5% increase compared to august 2025. This performance maintains the positive trend observed throughout the year and strengthens the outlook for the end of 2026.
Authorities attribute this growth to the country’s improved security, a condition that has contributed to enhancing El Salvador’s international image and encouraging more tourists. This has allowed more people to discover destinations that previously had less visibility within the national tourism offerings.

The increase in visitor arrivals also generates benefits for tourism-related economic activities, including restaurants, hotels, shops, tour operators, and transportation services. As more travelers explore the country, the economic impact is distributed across different sectors and regions.
With a 12% growth in tourism revenue and a 22% increase in international visitor arrivals during the first eight months of 2026, tourism continues to strengthen its contribution to the salvadoran economy and consolidate its position as one of the most dynamic sectors in the country.
