This monday, the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Dante Mossi, together with an official delegation of the Bank, held important meetings with authorities of its extra-regional partner country, the Republic of China (Taiwan), in order to promote the Central American region and strengthen business, investment and development cooperation relations.

Expanding its physical presence in its extra-regional partner countries and strengthening relations for the benefit of the region, this monday the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) opened its representative office in Seoul, capital of its most recent extra-regional partner, the Republic of South Korea.

Central America is no stranger to major shocks. The region was once one of the most volatile in the world, the scene of civil and political upheaval. More recently it has been hit not only by natural disasters but also by the COVID-19 pandemic. After each shock, the region has managed to recover and look for new possibilities.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Federal Republic of Germany signed a financial cooperation agreement for up to EUR 132.0 million to promote sustainable, accessible and safe multimodal transportation projects for people that, in turn, contribute to improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, to promote Sustainable Urban Mobility projects in Central America.

The global inflation crisis will leave a balance of increased poverty in Central America in the current year 2022, according to a report by the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC).

The Consejo de Ministros de Hacienda o Finanzas de Centroamérica, Panamá y República Dominicana (COSEFIN), presented a report on economic activity, inflation and economic cycles in the region.

Although the recovery process in 2021 has been widespread, it has occurred at different speeds in the region, according to the most recent IDB Group Activity Report "On the Road to an Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Recovery".

ASOFARMA Central America and the Caribbean, through its parent company ADIUM, and Moderna Inc. reached a collaboration agreement for the distribution and commercialization in the region of SPIKEVAX, the vaccine developed by Moderna against SARS-CoV-2.

The first Call for Businesses and Enterprises of the Care Economy in Central America, which is carried out within the framework of the program "Scalable market-based approaches to reduce, redistribute and recognize women's care work", implemented by Alterna in partnership with Pro Mujer, with the support of UN Women and funding from IDRC Canada (International Development Research Centre) and Open Society Foundations.

The Dirección General de Aduanas (DGA), an agency of the Ministry of Finance, reported that they have managed to reduce the times to 9.6 minutes for imports and 5.6 minutes for exports. In both cases, these are the lowest times in Central America, according to studies by the Central American Customs Services.
