The Colegio de Profesionales en Ciencias Económicas (COLPROCE) officially presented Semana del Economista 2026, an event that will bring together national and international professionals, academics, and specialists to analyze the main challenges and opportunities of the salvadoran economy.
This year’s edition will be dedicated to Roberto Esteban Callejas Santos and will focus on the theme “Innovating to Include: Towards a Knowledge Economy with Social Integration in El Salvador”, with the aim of promoting discussion on innovation, productive transformation, and inclusive development.
COLPROCE President Óscar Cabrera explained that the event will be organized around four main themes. The first will address the current economic situation and the reconfiguration of the productive structure; the second will analyze human talent, the demographic transition, and the digital economy.

The third focus will be on fiscal governance, tax equity, and intergenerational sustainability, while the fourth will examine the role of academia in a knowledge economy with social integration.
As part of the event, the careers of outstanding professionals in various areas of economics will also be recognized. The main award will go to Dr. Julián Ernesto Salinas Ventura, selected as Economist of the Year 2026. Also nominated as Distinguished Economists of the Year were Karla Catalina Galdámez Vanegas and Claudia Meniza Salgado Rodríguez. In the category of Research Economists of the Year, Flora Cecilia Guadalupe Blandón de Grajeda and Rolando Erick Mengíbar Escobar were selected.

Among the other awards are the Distinguished Business Administration Professional, for Lidia Margarita Ocón Castellanos, and the Distinguished Public Accounting Professional, for Luis Alonso Murcia Hernández. Outstanding professionals in public accounting research will also be recognized.
The closing ceremony is scheduled for friday the 14th, when the awards will be presented. COLPROCE hopes this event will serve as a forum for knowledge exchange and analysis on the country’s economic future, highlighting the role of innovation, technology, education, and human talent in El Salvador’s development.
