With 57 votes in favor, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly approved the amendment to the 2024 Budget Law, which will allow transferring US$159,972,925 to various government institutions, Including the Procuraduría General de la República (PGR), the Ministerio de Defensa Nacional (MDN), Ministerio de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología, the Ministerio de Vivienda and the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transporte (MOPT). This fund seeks to support the priority commitments of the entities, in the context of the economic and social transformation that the country is experiencing.
The Procuraduría General de la República will receive US$2 million, which will be allocated to institutional strengthening in order to continue providing legal assistance and psychosocial care to the salvadoran population. This allocation will enable the PGR to continue fulfilling its mission of protecting the rights of the most vulnerable sectors of the country.
Funds to institutions
The Ministry of National Defence will have US$68 million to strengthen operational areas that support the fight against terrorist groups, in the context of the Territorial Control Plan. In addition, the funds will improve the living conditions of the military, ensuring its ability to respond effectively to their security tasks.
Budget Reform
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology will receive US$84 million to be invested in modernizing the education system, with a focus on digital transformation. These resources aim to prevent school dropouts and improve basic education, ensuring that salvadoran students have the tools they need for their development.
The Ministry of Housing will also receive US$419,000 to support the Institute for Property Legalization, which to continue securing land tenure for low-income families and provide technical assistance in the legalization of social housing projects.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport will have US$4 million to be used for institutional operations, planning and execution of road infrastructure projects. These investments aim to maintain high standards in the country’s public works, contributing to the development of an efficient and safe road network.
