El Salvador and the Republic of Korea reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with the presentation of the Letters of Credence by the new salvadoran ambassador to South Korea, Federico Guerrero Avendaño. This event marks the beginning of a new phase of bilateral cooperation focused on strategic areas for economic and technological development.
El Salvador’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, emphasized that South Korea is one of the country’s main strategic allies and affirmed that this new step will deepen collaboration between the two nations. She said that this new phase of the relationship will be geared toward boosting trade, investment, and innovation, with the goal of generating opportunities for growth and shared prosperity.
Ambassador Federico Guerrero Avendaño reported that he officially presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, thus formally being accredited as El Salvador’s diplomatic representative to the Asian nation.
The diplomat noted that this phase will focus on expanding cooperation in sectors considered key to the development of both countries. These include trade and investment, infrastructure, science and technology, artificial intelligence, culture, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
He also emphasized that strengthening the bilateral relationship will be carried out under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele and the guidance of Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco, with the aim of consolidating new projects of mutual benefit.
As part of this rapprochement agenda, the ambassador announced that in 2026 El Salvador and Korea will celebrate the Day of Friendship between the two peoples for the first time, an initiative designed to strengthen the cultural, historical, and friendly ties between the two nations.
He also noted that in 2027 both countries will commemorate 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, an anniversary that reflects decades of cooperation and will serve to promote new initiatives in various fields.
The relationship between El Salvador and South Korea has gained greater importance in recent years due to the interest of both governments in expanding economic, technological, and educational cooperation, as well as promoting investments and exchanges that contribute to the development of both nations. With this new diplomatic phase, the two countries seek to consolidate an alliance focused on innovation, economic growth, and strengthening ties between their citizens.
