The Government, through the Ministry of Housing, delivered more than 300 property deeds to families who were victims of the Argoz Corporation S.A. de C.V. The company swindled thousands of salvadorans for decades with promises of sale of lots that were never formalized, despite the fact that those affected paid their installments for years.
The Minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, highlighted that this delivery was possible thanks to the technical and legal work carried out by her team and to the reopening of Argoz under the supervision of an intervener, as part of the judicial process in course against the corporation. According to Sol, Argoz irregularly negotiated 670 lotifications without documentary records, despite receiving US$147 million in payments from the affected families.
This effort is part of the Mesa de Casos Colectivos, made up of the Ministry of Housing, the Centro Nacional de Registros, the Procuraduría General de la República and the Defensoría del Consumidor. So far, 20% of the lots have been regularized, allowing hundreds of families to finally have access to their property titles.
The beneficiaries of this delivery come from 30 districts located in 11 of the 14 departments of the country. The Minister emphasized that 56% of the deeds delivered are in the name of women, reflecting a commitment to gender equity in property ownership.
This act marks an important step in the reparation of the damage caused to these families and reaffirms the Government’s commitment to ensure justice and dignity for salvadorans who for years were victims of real estate scams.
