The Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE) has outlined the procedure for salvadorans living abroad to vote remotely via the internet during the 2027 elections. This method will allow them to participate in the elections from anywhere in the world using a device with internet access.
The institution reported that this mechanism will be available to citizens with a Documento Único de Identidad (DUI) registered with an address abroad.
According to the TSE, the voting process will consist of four steps. First, citizens must enter their DUI number on the platform set up for the elections.
Next, they must validate their identity by scanning the document and using facial recognition, ensuring that the vote is cast only by the document holder and strengthening the system’s security.
Once their identity is verified, voters can cast their ballots to elect the President and Vice President of the Republic, as well as the representatives for the overseas constituency in the Legislative Assembly.
Finally, the system will generate a receipt with a verification code that will allow the voter to confirm that their vote was correctly registered.
The TSE highlighted that remote voting can be done from a cell phone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection, facilitating the participation of salvadorans residing abroad.
With this method, the institution seeks to expand electoral participation among the salvadoran diaspora and facilitate the exercise of the right to vote, regardless of the country in which citizens are located during the 2027 elections.
