The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has highlighted the importance of continuing to advance economic reforms, attracting greater private investment, and harnessing new technologies to strengthen El Salvador’s growth. This perspective was shared by Dan Katz, the organization’s first deputy managing Director, following a meeting with the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele.
In a post on his X account, Katz described the encounter as a positive meeting, noting that discussions covered the progress of reforms implemented in the country, as well as the President’s long-term vision for El Salvador’s economic development.
The IMF representative indicated that attracting more private investment will be a fundamental element in unlocking the national economy’s growth potential. This entails creating conditions that allow companies to expand their operations, develop new projects, increase their productive capacity, and identify investment opportunities across various sectors.
Private investment can also help stimulate economic activity by generating jobs, fostering the development of new businesses, and increasing corporate participation. Consequently, the organization believes that continuing to strengthen the environment for attracting capital is essential to consolidating the economic progress discussed during the meeting.

Another point highlighted by Katz was the utilization of new technologies. He noted that technological innovation can serve as a tool to boost productivity, refine business processes, and create opportunities in economic activities with higher value-added.
Integrating technological tools into businesses and various productive sectors can facilitate the modernization of operations, enhance competitiveness, and help El Salvador capitalize on new opportunities within the global economy.
Katz also referred to the government’s economic reforms and long-term vision, framing these elements as part of an effort to build upon recent progress and reach a higher growth potential. However, his post did not specify which reforms were analyzed during the meeting, nor did it present any new economic indicators.
The message from the first deputy managing director reflects the importance the IMF places on private investment, innovation, and the continuation of reforms as factors for strengthening El Salvador’s economic outlook. The meeting with President Bukele provided an opportunity to address these topics within the context of the country’s long-term development and growth agenda.
