The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, through its Embassy in Belgium and Mission to the European Union, welcomes the extension of the application of the European Union Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR). This important step forward will enable the country’s agricultural producers to adapt to the demands of the European market, thus strengthening their capacity to export products that meet international sustainability standards.
The regulation, which is scheduled to be implemented by december 30, 2025 for large companies and by june 30, 2026 for micro and small companies, marks a milestone in the opening of the European market to salvadoran producers. This additional deadline provides a crucial opportunity for companies already exporting and those seeking to enter the European market to adjust their processes and comply with the required regulations.
The approval of this measure by the European Parliament is the result of diplomatic work led by the Salvadoran Foreign Ministry and its Embassy in Brussels, in coordination with the Inter-Institutional Committee. This committee has been key to generate inputs to ensure an effective transition to the new standards, reinforcing the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible trade.
With the extension granted, salvadoran farmers and businesses will have more time to implement the necessary measures to comply with EUDR requirements, thus opening up new opportunities for economic growth. This achievement highlights the strategic role of salvadoran diplomacy in promoting national interests in the international arena.
