This coming october 16, 17, 18, and 19, the production company OnStage brings to salvadoran audiences one of the most important and acclaimed works by a worldwide audience.

Carmina Burana, composed by the German Carl Orff, is a show that brings together more than 95 national artists on a single stage who, through a live orchestra, choral singing, and dance, offer the audience a unique and powerful experience.

Premiered in 1937 and inspired by medieval poems written in latin, old german, and french, the work celebrates and questions life’s great themes: fortune, love, pleasures, and the beauty of the present.

Carmina Burana is structured in a series of songs and choruses that begin and culminate with the powerful hymn “O Fortuna,” an icon of classical music worldwide. Its dramatic power has made it one of the most emblematic works of the 20th century.
The production in San Salvador is under the artistic direction of Maria Elena and Diana Aranda, who have designed an impressive staging that integrates symphonic, choral, and choreographic elements.

The show features the talent of salvadoran maestro and choreographer Francisco Castillo; the choral direction is under the guidance of Maestro Edgar Sopón, and the orchestral direction is led by Maestro Alejandra Funes Bustamante. This magnificent cast of salvadoran musicians, singers, and dancers, who, through an extensive audition process, combine their talents to bring this production to the stage, also includes the special participation of Jorge Diaz de León as principal dancer.

Jorge is a Mexican teacher, choreographer, and dancer. He is currently a principal dancer with the Antoinette Dance Company and serves as artistic director of opera and ballet for the Ministry of Culture of the State of Puebla and the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture of Puebla.
