With the release of a sea turtle, AES El Salvador, through its AES Environment branch, reaffirms its commitment to environmental sustainability and the preservation of endangered species, strengthening its efforts to protect the country’s marine ecosystems.
For the tenth time, AES El Salvador employees participated in the release of Olive Ridley sea turtles at El Espino Beach, Usulután Department. The activity, carried out in coordination with the Fundación Zoológica de El Salvador (FUNZEL) and the Asociación OIKOS, seeks to contribute to the preservation of this species and foster a culture of environmental responsibility for marine life.

Thirty-five volunteers from the distribution companies AES CAESS, AES CLESA, and AES EEO participated in this event, supporting the release of newborn turtles into the sea, promoting the conservation of the country’s marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
Since 2011, AES El Salvador, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) “AES Environment” program, has promoted various initiatives focused on the protection of coastal ecosystems. During this time, the company has developed nine turtle release activities, with the cumulative participation of 311 volunteers.

In addition, in previous efforts, AES volunteers have contributed to beach cleanups and the construction of pens for the incubation and protection of sea turtle eggs, thus comprehensively supporting the different stages of conservation for this species.

In this work, FUNZEL and the Asociación OIKOS Solidaridad play a fundamental role as intermediaries and technical executors. Both organizations collaborate with local turtle farmers on El Espino Beach, collecting the eggs and transporting them to protected nests managed by OIKOS, where they are cared for until they hatch and are subsequently released.

The Asociación OIKOS, which works to protect the environment and promote sustainable practices in the rural areas of Usulután and San Miguel, also collaborates with local communities and international organizations such as the FAO on climate resilience and community development projects. “With these actions, AES El Salvador supports the preservation and protection of biodiversity and marine ecosystems, contributing to meeting United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Protect life below water”.
