The Government of El Salvador continues to strengthen the national economy from its productive bases. In a television interview, the president of the Comisión Nacional de la Micro y Pequeña Empresa (CONAMYPE), Paul Steiner, announced the opening of 20 new AgroMercados, an initiative that seeks to boost local production, improve farmers’ incomes and guarantee the supply of national products at fair prices.
As Steiner explained, these new AgroMercados have already been identified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and have the approval of President Nayib Bukele, as part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the salvadoran producer and reduce the gaps between production and consumption.
Direct boost to the productive economy
The expansion of AgroMercados represents a direct way to strengthen the local economy, by allowing small and medium-sized producers to market their crops without intermediaries, obtaining better profit margins and greater economic stability. This modality also benefits consumers, who have access to fresh, quality products at more affordable prices.
“The increase in AgroMercados allows us to guarantee salvadoran production and support the farmer so that he can become more technological”, said Steiner, emphasizing that the objective is not only to sell more, but to produce better and in a sustainable way.

Technique and sustainability
One of the pillars of this initiative is the modernization of agriculture, a process that seeks to modernize agricultural practices, improve productivity and reduce losses. CONAMYPE, in coordination with other State institutions, works to ensure that farmers have technical support, training and access to tools that allow them to respond to a growing demand.
This effort is especially relevant in a context where sectors such as tourism are generating demand that exceeds supply, opening new opportunities for local producers and micro and small businesses linked to the agri-food value chain.
Economy that is built from the micro

During the interview, Steiner emphasized that sustainable economic growth is built from the micro, supporting the more than one million micro and small businesses that exist in the country, in contrast to the less than one thousand large companies. In this sense, AgroMercados are consolidated as a key tool to integrate small producers into the formal economy and strengthen their financial resilience.
The opening of these 20 new commercial spaces will not only expand the AgroMercados network nationwide, but will also contribute to food security, job creation and territorial development, especially in rural areas.
With these actions, the Government reaffirms its commitment to an inclusive economy, where the farmer, the local producer and the microenterprise become protagonists of the economic growth of El Salvador.
