A total of 8,671 residency permits were granted to foreign citizens in El Salvador during the last year, according to data from immigration authorities. The figure demonstrates a sustained increase in the interest of people seeking to settle, work, or invest in the country.
The most significant increase was registered in temporary residency permits, which allow a stay of up to six months. This type of permit grew by 92.8%, reflecting a marked trend of foreigners initially arriving for job opportunities, business exploration, or temporary stays linked to specific projects.

In the case of temporary residency permits, valid for up to two years, the increase was 30%. Meanwhile, permanent residency permits, which grant rights like those of a Salvadoran citizen, increased by 44%, indicating that a significant portion of applicants are not only seeking a temporary stay but also intend to settle more permanently.
Migration experts explain that one of the main requirements for obtaining residency in El Salvador is having a job offer, suggesting that economic dynamism and the demand for talent are influencing this trend. The arrival of foreign workers responds to specific market needs and new investments in various sectors.

In addition to the labor factor, analysts point out that the improved security climate, economic openness, incentives for foreign investment, and the growth of tourism have contributed to positioning the country as an attractive destination in the region.
The trends in the figures confirm that the flow of migration to El Salvador is no longer isolated or moderate, but rather part of a broader phenomenon linked to structural changes in the economic and social environment. The evolution of these statistics in the coming years will allow us to measure whether this trend consolidates as a new migration pattern for the country.
