The Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) announced the official elimination of requirements for importing lighting fixtures into El Salvador, a measure that took effect on february 11, 2026. With this decision, it will no longer be necessary to complete procedures with the institution, including obtaining technical reports or submitting regulatory documentation related to these products.
This provision represents a direct change in the import process, as it eliminates an administrative step that was previously part of the pre-entry controls for lighting fixtures entering the country. From now on, importers can manage their operations without having to comply with these specific requirements from the DGEHM.

According to the institution, the measure aims to streamline commercial operations and reduce both the time and costs associated with importing. By eliminating the obligation to obtain technical reports, the procedure is simplified, and logistical planning for companies in the sector is facilitated.
The decision is part of a broader government strategy of administrative simplification and regulatory modernization aimed at strengthening competitiveness and improving the business climate. With fewer procedures and more streamlined processes, the goal is to create a more efficient environment for commercial activities.

The impact of this measure is projected primarily on the lighting product import sector, which will now benefit from more agile processes and greater operational efficiency. This could translate into a more dynamic market supply and better conditions for the development of commercial, industrial, and residential projects that require these types of supplies.
The DGEHM reiterated that it will continue to promote actions focused on transparency, institutional efficiency, and trade facilitation, as part of its efforts to modernize public administration and support the country’s economic growth.
