El Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez reported a 17% increase in passenger arrivals between february 1 and 15, compared to the same period in 2015, coinciding with Shakira’s Central American residency, according to the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA).
Official data indicates this growth reflects the direct impact of the concert on visitor traffic to the country, particularly from neighboring nations. The airport experienced a higher volume of arrival operations, demonstrating increased activity compared to the previous year.

CEPA explained that, in response to the increased number of travelers, operational processes were strengthened to ensure a smooth and orderly entry. Airport staff played a key role in guiding and assisting passengers, facilitating security checks and traffic flow within the terminal.
As part of the strategy to welcome visitors, a special atmosphere related to artist residency was implemented, aiming to offer a unique experience from the moment they arrived in the country. This initiative sought to reinforce El Salvador’s image as a host of high-profile international events.

The increase in arrivals also impacted the tourism-related service chain, including transportation, hotels, and retail—sectors that typically see a boost in large-scale events. For CEPA these results demonstrate how the cultural agenda can directly influence airport activity and the country’s regional positioning.
With this 17% growth, the airport consolidates its role as the main gateway to El Salvador and as a strategic hub for connecting travelers participating in international events.
