The Government of El Salvador delivered the Nicaragua Housing Project this friday, an initiative promoted by the Ministerio de Vivienda de El Salvador that will allow 80 families to access safe housing after living for decades in high-risk areas in the communities of Nicaragua 2, Nicaragua 3, and Minerva.
During the handover ceremony, the minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, said that one of the most important aspects of the project is that 79% of the beneficiaries are women, reflecting a social focus aimed at supporting those who, in many cases, are heads of household and directly responsible for the well-being of their families.
“Today, 80 families are officially moving into their apartments. For decades, they did not have the opportunity to have a project like this and lived in high-risk areas in the communities of Nicaragua 2 and 3, and Minerva. I want to tell you that 79% of the beneficiaries are women”, the official said.
A project to transform living conditions
The beneficiary families previously lived in settlements located in areas considered vulnerable, where they faced risks associated with the terrain and the lack of adequate infrastructure.
With the delivery of these apartments, families will now have a safe place to live, representing a significant change in their quality of life.
“All the families here have worked for their homes; they have put that effort into the construction of this project. Furthermore, they will pay a monthly installment of between US$50 and US$150 of the amount invested. Everyone is happy to improve their living conditions and have a safe home”, explained Sol.

Housing with affordable installments
Each apartment has an approximate value of $46,783, although the beneficiary families will pay affordable monthly installments ranging from $50 to $150, determined after a socioeconomic study conducted for each household.
According to the Housing minister, this analysis made it possible to establish payment conditions that were in line with the economic capacity of each family.
“The payment terms have been established according to each family’s socioeconomic circumstances. A study was conducted for each family, and an analysis was performed to determine a fair payment amount”, she said.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized that many of the beneficiaries are entrepreneurs, so the payment plan aims to make it easier for them to meet their payments while continuing to develop their economic activities.
Progress in reducing the housing deficit
The handover of this housing complex is part of the ongoing efforts to provide housing solutions to families who have faced precarious conditions for years.

“This project was carried out with great dedication and joy. We are pleased to know that we are making progress, and that this time there are 80 fewer families who will need a home like the one they are receiving today”, the minister expressed.
With the completion of the project, the families began moving into their new apartments, starting a new chapter in their lives.
“Congratulations! I know that starting today you’ll begin bringing in your furniture and that there will be many joyful moments. I want to tell you that you are an example of perseverance”, the official concluded.
The Nicaragua Housing Project thus represents an initiative that not only seeks to offer decent housing, but also to strengthen development opportunities for women and families who for years lived in vulnerable conditions.
