The General Directorate of Customs of El Salvador announced the requirements that Salvadorans planning to return to the country with their appliances and other personal household goods (household goods), including furniture, clothing, utensils, and everyday items, must meet to facilitate the entry process.
According to the institution, those wishing to import their household goods must present a series of key documents to streamline and expedite the procedure with the relevant authorities. Among the main requirements is a sworn declaration of intent to return, which can be for temporary, vacation, or permanent purposes. This document must be submitted to the General Directorate of Migration and Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, a detailed list of the goods to be imported is required, including a description of each item and its monetary value, both individually and in total. Authorities indicate that these values can be estimated, so invoices are not mandatory. This list must be submitted to the General Directorate of Customs for review.

Another important step is the import declaration, which is completed upon entering the country, specifically at the customs checkpoint. As part of this process, a one-time inspection fee of $18 must be paid, which covers the verification of the goods.
Those vehicles must also present the vehicle’s title. Regulations stipulate that each family group may bring in up to two vehicles as part of their household goods.

Authorities emphasize that complying with these requirements allows for a more streamlined and organized process, preventing delays when bringing goods into the country. They also stress the importance of preparing all necessary documentation in advance to ensure more efficient experience at customs checkpoints.
With this information, the General Directorate of Customs aims to guide salvadorans abroad who plan to return, facilitating the process and promoting compliance with current regulations regarding the importation of household goods.
