The U.S. Embassy in El Salvador announced that, effective March 30, it has expanded the review of social media profiles for applicants in various nonimmigrant visa categories.
According to the diplomatic mission, individuals applying for visas such as F, M, J, H-1B (and their dependents), as well as A-3, C-3, G-5, H-3, H-4 (H-3 dependents), K-1, K-2, K-3, Q, R-1, R-2, S, T, and U, must set their personal social media accounts to “public.”

The embassy explained that this measure aims to facilitate identity verification and admissibility assessment processes for the United States, as part of consular controls.
They also indicated that this provision would allow consular officers to access necessary information during the review of each visa application.

Authorities recommend that applicants take this requirement into account before beginning or continuing their application process, as compliance will be key in the evaluation of each case.
This action is part of the security mechanisms implemented by the United States in its immigration processes.
