National corn and bean production continues to strengthen thanks to the incorporation of irrigation systems and the technical support provided by the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) to the country’s farmers. This was highlighted by the MAG’s vice minister, Oscar Domínguez, who affirmed that these actions are contributing to improved productivity and results in El Salvador’s agricultural sector.
According to the official, the increase in planted areas for corn and beans is being driven by a combination of technological tools and specialized assistance, factors that allow farmers to optimize the use of available resources and better cope with climatic conditions that affect production.
One of the key elements in this process has been the implementation of irrigation systems, a technology that guarantees water supply to crops during periods of drought. This helps reduce the risks associated with climate variations and promotes better plant development during the different growth stages.

In addition to providing access to irrigation infrastructure, the MAG has maintained technical assistance programs for producers. These initiatives include guidance on crop management, agricultural practices, efficient use of inputs, and strategies to increase yields per manzana (approximately 1.7 acres).
According to Domínguez, the combination of these measures is enabling more farmers to achieve better harvests, strengthening national production of two of the most important staple grains for the salvadoran population.
The official emphasized that collaboration between the government and producers is essential to continue increasing agricultural production. He noted that coordination between public institutions and the productive sector aims to create conditions that promote food security and the development of the agricultural sector.

Strengthening corn and bean production also contributes to increasing food availability in the national market, while boosting the economic activity of thousands of families who depend on agriculture as their primary source of income.
With the expansion of irrigation systems and ongoing technical support, authorities expect the agricultural sector to continue showing positive results and that more producers will be able to improve the productivity of their plots, thus contributing to the sustained growth of national production.
