The Corporación de Exportadores de El Salvador (COEXPORT) rated El Salvador’s removal from the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) shortlist of countries under observation as a significant achievement for the country. According to the organization, this decision reflects the progress made in labor matters and strengthens the country’s image within the international community.
In a statement, the organization indicated that this measure is a positive sign regarding the work done on issues related to working conditions, social dialogue, and respect for workers’ rights. For the export sector, this recognition also represents an opportunity to further strengthen the country’s competitiveness and create a more favorable environment for economic activity.
COEXPORT emphasized that being removed from the ILO’s shortlist contributes to increased confidence among domestic and foreign investors considering developing projects or expanding operations in El Salvador. The organization believes that international companies take these types of decisions into account when analyzing a country’s business climate and institutional conditions.

According to the statement, increased investor confidence can translate into new job opportunities and greater dynamism in productive sectors, especially those linked to foreign trade and exports—activities that play a significant role in job creation and economic growth.
The organization also emphasized that this outcome particularly benefits the export sector, as it strengthens the international perception of the conditions under which Salvadoran companies operate. In the context of global competition to attract investment and expand markets, having favorable evaluations from international organizations can become a factor that enhances the country’s competitiveness.
COEXPORT also noted that the exclusion from the ILO’s watch list sends a positive message to the international community about the progress El Salvador has made in labor matters. Among the highlights, it mentioned the strengthening of dialogue among different sectors of society, as well as the commitment shown by representatives of the government, workers, and employers to build a more robust productive environment.

For the exporters’ association, the results reflect the importance of maintaining cooperation among the various stakeholders involved in the country’s economic and labor activity. It believes that coordination between the public and private sectors is key to continuing to promote conditions that favor investment, job creation, and export growth.
It also emphasized that international recognition can help improve El Salvador’s standing with trading partners, multilateral organizations, and potential investors, strengthening the country’s image as a destination with more favorable conditions for doing business and developing productive activities.
Finally, COEXPORT reiterated that being removed from the ILO’s shortlist of countries under observation is positive news for El Salvador, not only because it recognizes the progress made in labor matters, but also because of the opportunities it can generate to attract investment, strengthen employment, and consolidate the competitiveness of sectors that are strategic for the national economy.
