The Legislative Assembly authorized the Government of El Salvador to sign a loan agreement for $185 million with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). These funds will be used to implement a drinking water system modernization project that will benefit thousands of residents of the Área Metropolitana de San Salvador (AMSS) and the department of La Paz.
The initiative was approved with 58 votes and will allow the Administración Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (ANDA) to develop the Proyecto para el Mejoramiento del Sistema de Agua Potable Guluchapa. This project aims to strengthen the water supply, improve the hydraulic infrastructure, and increase the system’s capacity to meet the population’s demand.
The project includes a series of interventions designed to make water distribution more efficient. These projects include the rehabilitation of pumping stations, the construction of new storage tanks, the drilling of wells, and the maintenance of existing wells, especially in the district of Ilopango, one of the areas where the water supply is being reinforced.
The investments will also be directed toward modernizing the drinking water system infrastructure to reduce service interruptions and ensure a more stable and efficient distribution to the beneficiary communities.
According to what was approved by the legislators, the project will benefit the residents of Ilopango, Soyapango, Santo Tomás, Santiago Texacuangos, San Martín, and San Marcos, in the department of San Salvador. It will also benefit the districts of San Francisco Chinameca and Olocuilta, in the department of La Paz.
With this funding, ANDA seeks to strengthen the drinking water supply system in one of the most densely populated areas of the country, through projects that improve storage capacity, pumping, and extraction of the resource, contributing to providing a more reliable and higher-quality service for the population.
