Yellow corn for animal feed was the top import for El Salvador in May 2026, according to data released by the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) through the systems of the Centro de Trámites de Importaciones y Exportaciones (CIEX El Salvador).
Beef cuts ranked second, while durum wheat grains were the third most imported product that month, reflecting the importance of these raw materials and foodstuffs for supplying the domestic market and supporting productive activities.

According to the BCR, this data comes from the records of CIEX El Salvador, the platform responsible for facilitating and managing procedures related to the country’s foreign trade, allowing for monitoring of import and export trends.
The dominance of yellow corn is due to its role as a key input to produce animal feed, especially for poultry, swine, and cattle. Its availability is key to guaranteeing the supply of concentrates used in animal feed.

Meanwhile, beef cuts reflect the salvadoran market’s demand for these types of products, while durum wheat grains are an essential raw material for the food industry, particularly in the production of pasta and other derivatives.

The information published by the BCR is part of its ongoing monitoring of foreign trade, which allows it to identify the goods with the highest import volumes and understand the supply trends of strategic goods for the national economy.
