A group of families living in the Schafik Hándal community, located in the La Cruz neighborhood in the district of Suchitoto, department of Cuscatlán, will be able to move forward with the process of obtaining property rights to the land on which they currently reside. To this end, the Legislative Assembly authorized the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) to transfer a portion of a property to the Fondo Nacional de Vivienda Popular (FONAVIPO).
The measure was approved by a vote of 59 deputies and aims to resolve the situation of families who are currently in irregular possession of the land. With the transfer of the property, FONAVIPO will be able to intervene in the process aimed at guaranteeing the residents’ right to property.
The procedure will be carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Housing, which will be responsible, among other things, for conducting an updated census of the families living in the community. This registry will make it possible to identify the beneficiaries and gather the necessary information to continue with the regularization process.

In addition, the Ministry of Housing will be the competent authority responsible for approving the relevant sketches through the Site Plan and Subdivision process. This step will allow for the technical definition of the land distribution and progress in demarcating the lots that may be assigned to families.
The legislative authorization will allow the land to be transferred from MAG to FONAVIPO, an institution that will be able to manage the process related to property legalization. In this way, the goal is to transform the current situation of irregular possession into a process that provides families with greater legal certainty regarding the place where they live.
Obtaining a property title represents an important step for families, as it provides them with a legal document that supports their right to the property. It can also facilitate future procedures related to home improvements and access to various financing mechanisms or housing programs.

With this decision, the institutions involved must move forward with the next stages of the process, beginning with updating the families’ information and preparing and approving the necessary plans. Subsequently, the appropriate procedures can be carried out to formalize ownership of the land.
The initiative aims to benefit families in the Schafik Hándal community and resolve an irregular situation that has prevented residents from having legal certainty regarding the land they inhabit.
