Fundación Terra joins the Partnership for Central America as a strategic partner

In the framework of the Summit of the Americas 2022, Fundación Terra along with nine companies and organizations joins the Partnership for Central America (PCA), which is an independent organization created in support of the Call to Action announced by Vice President Kamala Harris in may 2021 with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through this initiative recognizes the importance of the role of the private sector in addressing the root causes of migration in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador; It calls on businesses and social organizations to make significant commitments to promote economic opportunities for these countries.

The Call to Action's six focus areas aim to support the long-term development of the region, which include: promoting a pro-democracy reform agenda; digital and financial inclusion; food security and climate-smart agriculture; climate adaptation and clean energy; education and workforce development; and access to public health.

During the summit, Vice President Kamala Harris announced commitments of more than $1.9 billion from the private sector to create economic opportunities in Central America's northern triangle.

Fundación Terra responds to the U.S. Vice President's Call to Action by becoming a strategic member of the Partnership for Central America (PCA) where it will invest $24.5 million in resources for new programs and sustainable solutions over the next five years.

Fundación Terra develops its operations with the resources contributed by the companies in which Terra Inversiones invests in the areas of energy, oil, retail and real estate, adhering to its Environmental, Social and Governance criteria.

The programs to be implemented will support the improvement of public education, digital access, entrepreneurship and environmental conservation. This includes contributions in Tutoring Scholarships for reinsertion into the school system and reinforcement in the subjects of mathematics and Spanish for 40,000 students in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, in addition to promoting financial inclusion.

During the event in which the incorporation was announced, Ms. Maria Del Carmen Nasser, Vice President of Fundación Terra, said "At Fundación Terra we firmly believe in partnerships as a model for success. The PCA is the perfect framework to work together with multi-sector partners and ensure that our programs have a scalable impact, for which it is important to connect with regional initiatives and establish platforms for collaboration".

Fredy Nasser, President of Fundación Terra said, "We are proud that Fundación Terra is taking this important step and becoming a strategic member of the Partnership for Central America to implement a tangible plan of new programs over five years; this is the foundation on which we have worked for over 20 years to provide children and youth with the tools necessary to become agents of change in their countries".

As a result of the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles CA, Vice President Harris will continue to convene CEOs and philanthropic leaders to advance this effort.
