President Nayib Bukele denounced through his social networks that, despite the fact that the government made the advance payment for seven days of free public transportation equivalent to US$12 million, there were multiple irregularities by some carriers. The situation has generated indignation, since these are public resources destined to guarantee a basic service for the population.

According to the President, several units did not go on the road, others did, but refused to allow passengers to board, even when they were empty. In addition, in many cases, fares continued to be charged, even though the Government had already covered this cost in advance.
President Bukele emphasized that, in addition to failing to comply with the service, those responsible could face charges of embezzlement, since they would have received public funds in exchange for a service they did not provide. This crime involves the misuse of state money and will be treated with the rigorousness required by law.

The Government has reiterated its commitment to enforce the law and protect the rights of salvadorans, especially with regard to essential services such as transportation. The authorities have already initiated verification processes to identify and sanction the units and companies responsible for these irregularities.
With this measure, Bukele seeks to send a clear message: state resources must be used with transparency and responsibility, and abuses that directly affect the population will not be tolerated.
