As part of the commemoration of Salvadoran Archivist’s Day, the Instituto de Acceso a la Información Pública (IAIP) held a discussion this friday to recognize the work of the professionals responsible for organizing, safeguarding, and preserving the historical, administrative, and cultural documentation of public institutions.
The activity was part of the efforts promoted by the government of President Nayib Bukele to strengthen document management and guarantee the protection of the country’s documentary heritage, considered a fundamental element for transparency and access to public information.
During the event, the IAIP presented awards to various institutions that have stood out for their collaborative work in implementing best practices in records management and in complying with document management standards.
Among the recognized institutions was the Ministry of Housing of El Salvador, which was highlighted for its commitment and the progress made in implementing efficient mechanisms for the management and preservation of institutional documents.

The president of the IAIP,Ricardo Gómez, emphasized that preserving state documents must be a priority for institutions, especially given the challenges posed by technological transformation.
“The work of document management and records officers is essential for preserving, managing, and providing adequate technological safeguards and protection for the state’s documentary heritage; this is of crucial importance”, the official said.
Gómez explained that proper archive management not only allows for the preservation of institutional memory but also ensures that public information is available in an organized and secure manner to citizens.
He also highlighted that each properly classified and safeguarded file and document strengthens the institution and contributes to the effective functioning of public entities, as it facilitates decision-making, accountability, and transparency in government management.

The IAIP noted that the work of archivists and records management officers is key to ensuring the preservation of the state’s historical and administrative memory. Furthermore, it allows public information to remain organized, accessible, and protected, strengthening the public’s right to access information.
With these actions, the authorities seek to continue promoting a modern and efficient document management culture, in which the preservation of archives becomes a tool to strengthen transparency and guarantee the conservation of El Salvador’s documentary heritage.
