The Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOPT) today inaugurated the new road access connecting the highway to the port of La Libertad and Nuevo Cuscatlán. This project aims to improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen connectivity in one of the areas with the highest traffic volume in the metropolitan area.
According to authorities, the new infrastructure could reduce travel times between South and East La Libertad by up to 20 minutes during peak hours, in addition to helping alleviate congestion at critical points such as the Utila roundabout, an area with high traffic volume.
The project was inaugurated by the Minister of Public Works, Romeo Herrera, along with the Executive Director of FOVIAL, Alex Beltrán, who highlighted that the road now has two lanes, an approximate width of 9 meters, and a series of complementary works to improve functionality and road safety.
The completed works included drainage systems, ditches, stormwater pipes to control runoff, a traffic island, road signage, and tree planting in the area.
In addition, a 2.5-meter-wide sidewalk, including a flowerbed, was built as part of the improvements to pedestrian conditions.

According to the Minister of Public Works, this new access road provides an alternative route for families traveling to and from Nuevo Cuscatlán, as well as for users seeking faster access to strategic destinations such as the port of La Libertad.
The project spans approximately 200 linear meters and represents an investment of over $300,000.
One of the aspects highlighted by the authorities was the speed of completion. The project began on march 11 and was finished and inaugurated 41 days later, a timeframe that, they noted, allowed for the rapid implementation of a solution for an area with high traffic demand.
From an infrastructure perspective, the project also seeks to generate impacts on road efficiency by facilitating a better distribution of traffic and reducing bottlenecks in high-traffic corridors.

The reduction in travel times can also translate into lower mobility costs, both for users and for productive activities that depend on traffic in this area.
With this project, the Government is adding a new road connection aimed at improving traffic flow, strengthening connectivity, and addressing mobility needs in a strategic corridor between the metropolitan area and the coastal zone.
