The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved, with 58 votes, a modification to the Law of Presupuesto 2026 to incorporate US$41,400 into the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, with the objective of strengthening the management and execution of an infrastructure program financed with external resources.
According to official information, the funds will be allocated to the Yucatán Institutional Strengthening Project and will allow financing the extension, from january to june 2026, of the professional service contracts for the technical personnel of the Unidad Ejecutora del Programa.
Between the benefited personnel there is an administrative technician and the coordinator or technical manager, who oversee key functions such as planning, coordinating, following and executing the activities necessary to complete the project execution.

The financing comes from an available balance of a loan for US$144,708,600, taken out in september 2015 with the Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica and the Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior. This credit was originally intended for road infrastructure works and the construction of border bridges.
According to this detail, the incorporated resources correspond to unused funds of the “unforeseen circumstances” item contemplated within the global loan investment plan, which allows their reassignment without affecting other components of the program.
The incorporation of these funds will make it easier for the MOPT to maintain the Program Execution Unit operational during the final process, ensure the correct settlement of outstanding contracts and complete the administrative and financial details of the loan.

Among the works linked to this financing, the General Manuel José Arce bridge stands out, located on the Paz River, on the border crossing of La Hachadura, which connects El Salvador with Guatemala.
The completion of the program is scheduled for june 2026, so this measure seeks to ensure that all technical and administrative processes conclude in an orderly manner and in accordance with the commitments acquired.
With this decision, the Legislative Assembly supports the completion of strategic infrastructure projects and the appropriate use of resources from international financing.
