The projects will benefit more than 14 thousand families in Santa Ana and La Libertad with the generation of hydroelectric and solar photovoltaic energy.

In a bid to continue with the strategic vision of the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, to modernize the energy matrix of El Salvador, Compañía Eléctrica Cucumacayán (CECSA), today inaugurated the first two hybrid power generation plants. Projects with state-of-the-art technologies, which have hydroelectric and photovoltaic production and allow the company to avoid approximately 6,934 tons of CO2 per year.

The CECSA San Matías (La Libertad) and CECSA San Luis (Santa Ana) Hybrid Power Plants are equipped with 1,500 photovoltaic solar panels to increase the company's energy production, with an investment of approximately US$1.6 million and benefiting more than 14,000 households annually in both departments.

"As we proposed when we started this administration, we have modernized our power plants, which we found almost in a state of abandonment, giving them a new face, the face that this new El Salvador deserves", said CECSA's president, engineer Juan Ceavega.

The works, moreover, have been executed in about six months, which demonstrates the spirit and work mystique of the great CECSA family together with its strategic partners, Type One Capital, S.A. de C.V. and Anchor Energy.

The CECSA San Matías Hybrid Power Plant has an installed capacity of 4.9 MW (4.1 MW hydro and 785 kWp- 625 kW AC solar) and CECSA San Luis (0.3 MW solar and 0.7 MW hydro), for a total of 5.1 MW of injection to the national power grid.

In each plant, solar panels with monocrystalline and bifacial technology have been installed, which allow a better capture of the refraction and reflection of sunlight, both in the upper and lower part of the panels, thus increasing generation by 30% more than with conventional photovoltaic technology.

All this, together with the good management of water resources, ensures that CECSA continues to be the leader in the retail energy market, operating eight small hydroelectric power plants and, as of today, two of them under hybrid photovoltaic and hydroelectric modality.

"With this project we ensure energy generation all year round, both in winter and summer, when solar irradiation increases, ensuring a constant energy supply, at a better price and with respect for the environment", said Ceavega.
