El Salvador’s Foreign minister, Alexandra Hill Tinoco, emphasized before the United Nations General Assembly that the country seeks to transform its security progress into a platform for boosting investment, employment, and economic and social development. The Foreign Minister participated in the 81st UN General Assembly Debate, held in New York, where she presented the country’s priorities to the international community.
One of the main economic arguments put forward by Hill was that security must become a prerequisite for generating new opportunities for investment and growth. “Today we are transforming security into investment; investment into employment; and employment into social mobility”, she said during her address. The Foreign Minister maintained that, after prioritizing security conditions, the next stage is related to economic and social development.
In this context, Hill highlighted the growth prospects of the salvadoran economy and noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects a 4.5% expansion of real GDP in 2026. The international organization confirmed in September that it expects this growth, supported by increased investment and private consumption, as well as the performance of remittances, tourism, and capital inflows.
Attracting capital is also part of the economic agenda that El Salvador seeks to position internationally. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that, during Hill’s participation in the General Assembly, the country has taken advantage of bilateral meetings to strengthen alliances related to investment and trade. Among these agreements, the one signed with Argentina for the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments stands out, encompassing opportunities in sectors such as agribusiness, specialized manufacturing, and technological and logistical infrastructure.

Tourism is another sector mentioned as one of the drivers of the economy. The IMF includes tourist arrivals among the factors supporting its growth outlook for El Salvador, along with remittances and capital flows. During their visit to New York, the salvadoran delegation also held meetings aimed at expanding cooperation and trade relations with various countries.
Hill also linked economic growth to job creation and social mobility. In her speech, she noted that the priority now is to transform the progress made into new opportunities for the population through investment in employment, technology, education, and other sectors linked to development. The minister also mentioned education and health programs as part of a broader social development strategy.
Technology and artificial intelligence also featured prominently in the vision presented by the foreign minister. Hill stated that artificial intelligence will be a crucial tool for the country to compete in the future and maintained that economic transformation must advance alongside development and human dignity. This commitment aligns with the Foreign Ministry’s pursuit of new areas of cooperation and investment during its international agenda, including technology, innovation, and the digital economy.
Thus, El Salvador’s participation in the 81st UN General Assembly was marked by an agenda that connects security, investment, and economic development. In addition to presenting its priorities to the international community, the salvadoran delegation has used the bilateral agenda to seek agreements and alliances in productive sectors. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains that these efforts aim to create conditions for expanding trade, attracting investment, and contributing to the country’s economic development.
