SC begins analysis of IBW purchase request by Telefonica Courtesy

The Superintendencia de Competencia (SC) admitted the process for the request for authorization of economic concentration filed by Telefónica El Salvador to acquire IBW El Salvador, thus initiating the technical, economic and legal analysis that will determine whether or not the transaction will cause a significant limitation of competition, under the terms of art. 34 of the Competition Law.

This request was filed on december 22, 2023 and after reviewing the file, the Superintendencia de Competencia determined that the transaction is configured within the assumptions of articles 31, 32 and 33 of the Competition Law, thus proceeding to its admission for processing. The SC preventively analyzes the economic concentration requests of any agent, in the exercise of its economic freedom, as long as they comply with the criteria established in the regulations.

The SC will continue informing the results of the analysis of the merits of the transaction, once the time defined for it has elapsed, guaranteeing an agile and efficient process for the benefit of the salvadoran economy.
