About 3,000 salvadorans have traveled to Canada for work

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

Around 3,000 salvadorans have traveled to Canada through the Labor Migration program implemented by the Ministerio de Trabajo y Previsión Social (MTPS).

In august 2023, the MTPS registered more than 40,000 applications to enter the labor migration program.

This labor opportunity gives salvadorans a window of opportunity to improve their quality of life for themselves and their families, since thanks to the program, the economy in each household is boosted to the point that many of them are becoming entrepreneurs.

Yesterday, the first contingent of temporary workers departed for the canadian provinces of Alberta and Quebec, where they will work in different fields, under a temporary work visa that this North American country issued them for two years, thanks to the Labor Migration Program.

The minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, assured that the importance of the program lies in its focus on preserving the family bond, "with this initiative, legal benefits and vacation periods are guaranteed to facilitate the reunion with the family", explained the official.

He emphasized that the program would not be possible without the commitment and effort of the work team, which is dedicated to providing benefits to those who need them most".

He also emphasized that everyday opportunities for salvadorans are expanding, giving them the opportunity to work legally and without putting their lives at risk, "thanks to the Labor Migration Program".

He also made a call to the citizens not to be fooled if they are offered the opportunity to work abroad in exchange for money, "I call for caution, if someone offers them the opportunity to travel to work in exchange for money, that is a fraud", he said.

In addition, he assured that next week he will file a notice before the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) against subjects who have taken advantage of the need of many humble people.

The Labor Migration program caused hundreds of salvadorans to legally go to work temporarily in Canada. Eleven groups of workers obtained their temporary work visa in 2023.
